Incrustation and Deposits
With evaporation, the water boiler undergoes a concentration process of impurities introduced by the replacement water. The dissolved solids are raised to such high level that solubility of certain compounds are exceeded, causing precipitation. When not used chemical treatment in the water boiler, this precipitation occurs directly on the surface of its tubes, forming incrustation causing an insulating barrier on the side of the water, reducing the heat transfer. Over time, the deposits become thick, requiring greater amount of heat to produce steam. Consequently, it is necessary to increase the fuel consumption to maintain the initial production of steam. The temperature of the boiler inner tubes also rises and may cause melting or rupture in the metal.
Corrosion
Internal boiler corrosion is normally the result of low pH and oxygen attack .The pH adjustment is made using an alkali. Since the removal of oxygen occurs by deaerating water and feeding in the pre-boiler with an oxygen scavenger, which can be the basis of sodium sulfite or hydrazine.
